Wireless connection and VPN-1 Securemote

Has anyone experienced a degredation in signal strength when us VPN-1
Securemote? My connection was fine at 54 mbps and when I connect to work
using VPN-1, the speed drops to 1 mbps. When I disconnect, the speed stays
low until I recycle the wireless connection. Any ideas as to how I can
figure out what is going on?
