memory, 20&40 HDDs and DVD + CDRW. Until recently all was quiet now I
have noticed that the fan is running continuously. Is this a problem?

Fan has probably always been running, it is now dirty and therefore
noisey!

The fan should run continuously......since you have now noticed it.....it
may be going bad.
