No Video Display

After several days of freezing up on the initial boot into Win XP, the PC
would boot & run ok all day after the 2nd boot up.
Now after a re-start the video display has disappeared...just a black
screen.
Video card & monitor test out ok on another PC.
Any suggestions as to the likely cause or other likely components to
eliminate other than getting a new mother board?
All suggestions welcome.
Grump.

sounds like it could be over heating. Do you get a blank screen when
you boot up from cold or is this just from rebooting?

Have you checked to make sure the cables are securely fastened? Are
you overclocking?

Do you hear the motherboard beep(s) that signal that the motherboard
self-tests are ok?
A dead hard drive can do what you are seeing. Does your hard drive spin up?
Can you read the contents of the hard drive if you install it in another
computer? If it is your hard drive and you have not backed up data files you
have big problems. Sometimes a dying hard drive will give a last read if
used as a slave in another computer: even if your hard drive is working it
would be a good idea to copy your data files just in case.
A dying power supply can also look like what you are seeing. Not dead but
not enough juice either.
Bottom line: it may be cheaper in the long run to take the comuter to a
repair shop . . .
