My Inspiron 8100 which I purchased new 3 years ago (no longer under
warranty) developed a bright purple vertical line on the display a month
ago. This line was never present on an external monitor. A few weeks ago, I
removed the keyboard and disconnected and reconnected the LCD cable where it
connects to the main board or video card. The problem went away for about a
week but is back now. I tried reseating the cable again, but it did not help
this time. My question, is this thing worth fixing? It has a 1000hz
processor, 512 RAM, etc. I'm assuming that it will require a new display to
be fixed. Anyone know where a used one could be purchased for a reasonable
price?

Many thanks and Happy Easter.
Jay

If it really has a 1000Hz processor it was probably built in the 1930s and
should be in a museum. Perhaps you meant 1000 mHz (1 GHz).

In laptops, the ribbon cable from the screen to the drive connector to where
it connects in the main section, can go intermittent or defective with use.
Call the support people for your laptop, and see if they will sell you a
replacement cable.

With many of these products, they may not sell the parts. They may insist
you send them the computer for proper service. You may have to comply to get
your computer serviced, or if you can find a ribbon cable from a used
machine. Take care with used parts, that sometimes the used one has the same
fault that you had, since it is from the same type of model.

Slight correction:

When I said drive connector, I meant graphics drive connector

Unfortunately many of the Dell products have that ribbon mounted on
the inverter for the screen so if you want to replace the ribbon you
have to replace the inverter and thus the screen itself. Still it
might be worthwhile for the OP to call dell and ask for a part number.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You were laughed at the first time and
your ****witted correction is even funnier.

Your search - "graphics drive connector" - did not match any documents.

You know **** all and make it all up as you go along, don't you, cuntfungus?
