Processor upgrade help

Posts: n/a
Thanks for the initial help with my upgrading my processor question.
Now that I know I can update my Dell Dimension 4400 to a 2.4Ghz
processor how do I find the right one that will fit and be compatible
with the motherboard, etc.? I've currently got a 1.60 gigahertz Intel
Pentium 4
8 kilobyte primary memory cache
256 kilobyte secondary memory

Board: Intel Corporation D845PT AAA67834-304
Serial Number: MY01K5291246522J0106
Bus Clock: 100 megahertz
BIOS: Intel Corp. A03 01/08/2002

Can I just get any Pentium 4 2.4Ghz or are there different sockets and
other specifications that I have to take into consideration? Thanks
again for any help.

You can't. The maximum CPU speed the D845PT motherboard can handle is
2.0 GHz. On the flip side, the 2.0 GHz processor is still plenty if
you're not into gaming, and have plenty of RAM.

I take that back. Check this thread:

It seems it is possible.
