And that player wasn't even as good as their cheapo model. Time to dump it and get an Oppo 970. You won't believe what you've been missing. Kimba W. Lion |

I want at least dual TV tuners so I can record two programs at the same time, with the ability to add more TV channels if I want by buying inexpensive plugin tuner cards. I want a removable hard disk drive of my specification (eg, WD SATA) so I can swap disks in and out. I also want a removable DVD burner of my specification (eg, NEC 3550). I want DivX and XviD, USB 2.0. I want advanced controls like 30 sec skip forward and 10 second skip backwards, sortable tables for the timer and the hard disk directory. I want wireless network capability with full TCP/IP so I can connect to my LAN. I want a silent cooling fan that really works to keep the unit cool enough that the internals will not be damaged by excess heat. I want a 3 year warranty with shipping paid both ways with thousands of service centers nationwide so the service is reasonably quick. I want a lot more than that - things I can get if I build my own PVR. Or maybe some day Dell Computer will build it for me. Does the 970 come with all that and more? If not, then I guess I will just have to miss it. -- Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. I wanted to do the same but my two DVD units burned out at the same time so I had to toss them and buy two new units. The good news is that these newest units work a lot better than the older ones, so you are in for a new experience. Buy at the low end but only after doing your homework and studying the forums like CDFreaks and VideoHelp for their comments. Then consider an extended warranty if it makes sense. -- "All men seek to be enlightened. It is the task of religion to fit man into this lawfulness.
