Vertigo poor quality on my screen

Hello!

I am using a Sharp Aquos 37" and an Oppo DVD player.

When I popped in "Vertigo" (restored edition) it didn't come close to
filling the screen on any side so I clicked the "zoom" button on the
remote several times until I got full screen. But at this point the
image was highly pixelated and hardly watchable. So I "unzoomed" back
to where I started and watched the smaller but sharper picture. Out of
hundreds of movies this has only happened a few times that I can
recall.

My question: Is the problem my equipment, my settings, or "Vertigo"?

Thanks in advance.

It would seem you have the non-anamorphic release of "Vertigo". You might
want to consider picking up the re-release:

It may only be available in this pricey Hitchcock box set:

The library copy says 1996 on the box so it may be old.

I will check out the newer edition.

It is good to know what "anamorphic" means. I was never sure. I guess
it means, among other things, "fill a wide screen TV without
pixelating."

Thanks much!
