Abso-****in-lutely not!

Alcohol based cleaners are a no go for plastic, especially when used
in conjunction with a "towel".

Remember, that plastic surface is more than ten times softer than a
glass lens, and softer too than the fibers that make up the paper in
the paper towel.

They are not meant to EVER be touched. That is the whole idea. It
is an optical surface, but a VERY fragile one.

A smudged rental disc only means that some retarded twit fat
fingered the thing.

Just proves how careless the rental crowd is due to the fact that it
isn't their property.

Why be the lazy ****tard that can't empty the caddy tray disc into
its proper case BEFORE you get the disc you want to put in out of its
case? In other words, YES, EVERY contact with the optical surface CAN
and likely does scratch said surface.

The way they come stacked is exactly that. Stacked, right on top of
each other's hub perfectly, which keeps them separated, Going around
the house tossing loose stacks around is NOT hub to hub and can very
easily cause further abrading.

It is not a big deal for some punk with a bunch of burned discs full
of data he filched somewhere.

It IS a big deal for folks that BUYT their library contents, and
maintain it in as mint like condition as possible.

In other words, I never *need* to EVER clean my discs because my
disc handling conduct is such that they remain in mint condition at
all times.

Too many casual ****tards already in the world. I don't need to
jump on that bandwagon.

What I cannot figure out is how their ****ed in the head logic
allows them to think that there is some guy out there selling bad
batches he got out of the dumpster at the pressing facility and deep
discount is buying them all up. Utterly ludicrous.

Don't these idiots know that companies that sell thousands upon
thousands of discs all get their merchandise from the same sources?

Try taking a known "failed" disc. Place it in the player, and turn
the player upside down and see if the freeze occurs.

Heads can "sag". A three year old player is getting up there, and a
combo player likely doesn't have their best transport mech in it.

If it does play upside down, its the player. Not broken, just out
of calibration.

The head cleaning disc.......... doesn't.

Talk about your built-in obsolence. Most VCR players used to last a
lot longer than three years. Geez.

There used to be a time when one would call the VCR repair man or
would bring the machine down to his shop. Warranty once expired
nowadays, even for something as minor as out of calibration, it is
almost cheaper and easier to just get a new machine. Oh well, it
keeps the Chinese gainfully employed.

Cheers,

Jaime

Actually the main ingredient in most varieties of window cleaner is
amonia, and that is far more dangerous to most plastics than alcohol.

Nearly every rental disc I've seen looks like someone used it under a pile
of fried chicken. A quick wash under the faucet with some liquid hand soap
followed by pat-drying with a soft cloth towel cleans them up very nicely.

Well...

Thanks for the advice embedded in that reply.

But, my, you do seem to have a bit of scorn for the lazy and casual
"****tards" of the world. I wonder what percentage of people we're
referring to.

Anyway, a nice, detailed answer. It'll prompt me to be a little more
careful with my DVDs.

Unfortunately people like him generally turn out to be wife beaters or
child abusers. I know people who treat their dogs better than their
kids. Some people just have ****ed up priorities (or is it ****tard
priorities?).
