Handling the Edit Verb

I want to replicate the Sharepoints customize option using Asp.Net 2.0 Web
Parts.

On the Customize menu, usually on the top tight, there is a menuitem,
"Modify My Web Parts" > { List of All Web Parts}

So if I select any web part here, not only does the display mode change to
EditDisplayMode, but even the slected control's properties are selected .

In Asp.net currently, first I change the displaymode and then I need to go
and select the WebPart from it's Edit Verb.

How to replicate the Sharepoint behavior so that in 1 click I can change
mode as well as select a control?
