Wireless networking problem, no longer

This post is to relate an experience that may prove useful to someone else.

I have (had) a desktop w/XP-Home. Also a laptop with XP-MCE
In a wireless mode, XP-Hm could "see" the XP-MCE; however, I was never able
to make the XP-MCE "see" the XP-Hm.
This group sent pages of info, links in abundance on how to solve the
connectivity problem. It was all overwhelming.

Two techs at two different box houses here in FL said that there are network
issues between XP-MCE and XP-Hm, that connectivity will never happen.
Never? So be it.

The XP-Hm desktop went over the edge one day - an abundance of blue screens,
and an assortment of problems. It was ditched in favor of a newer model
that has XP-MCE.

Virtrually immediately, both machines saw each other in a wireless mode;
further the printers on the desktop were automatically "seen" by the laptop.

Question is (for those who still have a mix): Is there a wireless network
issue between XP-Hm and XP-MCE?

BTW, when a System Info tab is clicked on either/both XP-MCE machines, 'it'
says that XP-Professional w/SP2 is installed.
"My Computer" properties calls it XP-MCE. Is XP-MCE really XP-Professional
with a few media-related bells and whistles added?

Wireless networking is a very complex matter even for (average) support
professional. Wired networking is pretty complex by itself, but
wireless can be extremenly complex and yes - overwhelming.

Don't blame them. This is very complex stuff, often impossible to diagnose
remotely.

May be.

Yes. MCE is basically an application on top of XP Pro (and now there is
version for Vista).

Was not blaming them for anything - just noting an input from two very
different sources.

This was/is an information posting. For those who have an OS mix, and
wonder why they cannot connect, the question below, I believe, is valid.

Does anyone know the real answer?

The fact that my two XP-MCE systems connected immediately, without a hassle,
must tell us something and may be useful to someone with a wireless
networking problem.

never??? i have xp-home, xp-pro, xp-mce, and w2k3-standard here and they
all talk very nicely. just what are you trying to do that they say can't
work??

Hi Dave:

All now down stream, I was trying to get XP-Hm to, wirelessly, talk to
XP-MCE. Two box house techs tried to help, but said it would (might) never
work due to OS differences.

Meanwhile the XP-Hm machine literally quit. Dead. Old thus not worth a
motherboard diagnosis - thus driven to replace. Now I have XP-MCE talking
very nicely to another XP-MCE (that I now understand is really XP-Prof w/a
media app added). All very fine now but it was frustrating with the earlier
config.

This msg was posted to alert those who also have been experiencing wireless
networking problems to POSSIBLY consider that different versions of XP MIGHT
be the culprit.

What is/was good here and now is that the wireless link worked at the blink
of an eye. Incl sharing of printers. Like a script was waiting in the
wings for a chance to prove itself.

As for your multi-OC system/network, clearly you know how to do it. Many
others could use your help.
