Wireless Networking - Error message while trying to add laptop to host computer |

I previously had my laptop added to my home network. No problems. Then my lap
had to be reformatted. Well, now I can't add my laptop to my home network. I used the wizard on my host computer to "setup a wireless network for a home or small office" I saved the information to the flash disk. I put the flash disk in my laptop and it didn't automatically execute the necessary files like it did before (when I set it up the very first time). So I opened the flash and tried to manually execute the "setupSNK" file and this is the error message I received: The wizard cannot automatically configure your network settings on the version of windows that is running on this computer. I checked the versions of both computers and they bother run XP Professional same version. I installed the Service Pack2 on the laptop and tried again. The file still won't execute. I am able to connect to the wireless network from my laptop with "excellent" signal strength, but I can't go online. So I have 2 problems that I think go together 1)I can't add the laptop to the home network and 2) I can't connect to the internet even though I can connect to the "wireless network". Phew...any help would be great! =?Utf-8?B?UXVlZW4gQnJvd24gU2h1Z2E=?= |

Hi
The Flash drive process is nice, however if it does not work, set manually the Wireless Parameters in the Router, and then do the same on the Wireless computers. The specific menu structure is different from one model to the other, read the manuals it quite simple to do it. My New Wireless does not work - http://www.ezlan.net/wireless.html Wireless, Basic Configuration - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html Wireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html Jack (MVP-Networking). Hi
Unfortunately solving complicated problem through a medium like this (newsgroup) without sitting in front of the computer is not always possible. In many cases steering the user for toward a functional solution is a better approach than trying to resolve a problem by endless trial and error. Jack (MVP-Networking). I understand. I did, however, get it working. I went to "computing for
dummies" and found out how to manually assign an IP address and then went into the router (web based) and entered the same IP address and it picked right up. I also found my error as to why I couldn't use the flash disk. I installed the security disk instead of the service pack 2 disk...duh. So, that's why the XP versions were diffferent. Thanks for your help! Hi
Glad you solved the problem. Your mistake exemplifies what I meant in my post above. You stated that you installed SP2. If I was sitting in front of your computer I probably would detect that SP2 is not installed in few minutes. However based on the information given by you there was no reason to think about it. Ends Good all Good Jack (MVP-Networking). "Queen Brown Shuga" <> wrote in message news:F0BC9CCB-2B7F-4D80-A756-... >I understand. I did, however, get it working.
