The router -- which is always on -- connects to your Internet connection, and then each computer independently connects to the router, either wirelessly or via Ethernet cable. Thus, any of the computers can connect to the Internet without any of the other computers having to be powered on. The problem you have is that most SOHO wireless routers are designed to be connected to a broadband Internet source (cable or DSL) via an Ethernet connection -- and your BT DSL modem has a USB connection. Thus, unless your BT ADSL modem ALSO has an Ethernet output in addition to its USB output you have two choices: buy another ADSL modem that does have an Ethernet output or find a wireless router that accepts a USB input. I don't know of any routers that have a USB input, although there may be some. -- Lem MS MVP -- Networking To the moon and back with 64 Kbits of RAM and 512 Kbits of ROM. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_Guidance_Computer Lem |
