Home wireless problem, pls help
This is driving me whacky...
My situation: Cable ISP, Linksys Wireless Router, WinXP Pro... Recently moved to new home.. Cable modem and wireless router are on ground floor, my desktop on second floor... Windows shows me connected under Network Connections, with a strong signal... Ipconfig gives me all the normal stuff... IP, gateway, etc. I've released it and it renew's just fine.... However, I can NOT ping the router at all... Times out... Any ideas appreciated... thx =?Utf-8?B?R3JpbmR5?= |

I believe your firewall is blocking you. Temporary try disabling it and then

No firewall... Windows is disabled and my security software is disabled also.

Hmm are you trying to ping by name, or an IP address. Can your computer ping

I can ping my own IP but that's it... Can't ping anything else...

That strongly suggest that you have a security program blocking you. When
you attempt to ping dhl.com do you get the return IP address? It's possible I guess that your Linksys router is blocking pinging, but normally that only occurs on the WAN port. What Linksys router do you have and I'll try to find out if it has a setting that might be blocking you. Some firewalls can not be disabled, you need to remove them to get around them. It's not the router, since I can ping it successfully with my laptop.

If IPconfig is Normal then the desktop has a valid IP. Can you ping this IP from the Laptop? Otherwise,http://www.ezlan.net/debug.html Jack (MVP-Networking). Contact your cable ISP and make sure your account is configured to allow
