I set up a wireless network and thought I'd protected my C
drive from prying eyes. Much later, and much to my dismay, I discovered that Windows automagically creates the hidden administrrative share C$. Isn't this a HUGE security hole? If you unshare it, it comes back on it's own. I jumped thru several hoops to turn it off. Isn't this something wireless networkers should worry about... A LOT??? mike mike |

If your admin password is not strong - then yes, you should
be worrying A LOT. If you have no admin password at all, the XP admin shares will not be accessible over network AT ALL, so no worry. Hope this helps. --PA "mike" <> wrote in message news:qyqeh.60$LL4.17@trnddc04... >I set up a wireless network and thought I'd protected my C > drive from prying eyes. > Much later, and much to my dismay, I discovered that Windows > automagically creates the hidden administrrative share C$. > > Isn't this a HUGE security hole? > > If you unshare it, it comes back on it's own. > I jumped thru several hoops to turn it off. > > Isn't this something wireless networkers should worry about... > A LOT??? > mike Pavel A. |

That's counter-intuitive, but very good news.
