I am using a netgear wireless modem router via ethernet to my host PC, I am
using 128 bit WEP encryption via the use of a passphrase. I also have two other pc's that are on the network that have netgear M111 network adapters, these are easy to configure using the netgear network connection software as all I do is search for the network and enter the passphrase and bingo they are connected. I have a problem however with my laptop, I dont have any network software that allows me to enter a passphrase only windows managed networking, this only allows me to manually enter 64bit or 128bit encryption, is there any way that I can enter just the passphrase to connect to the network? And the answer to your initial question is - Yes, WZC is exactly that: you create a connection in the list, set it's properties (passphraze included) and just use it. I do not use no "helper" software at all, neither WiFi adapter vendor's nor "Boingo"-like one. All is needed really are just the most recent WiFi adapter drivers and WZC. That's all. Tony. Tony |

Hi
Actually, copying the HEX string from the Router, and pasting it in the Wireless client, is a better practice when using WEP. WPA is better but you can not use it unless all your wireless hardware support it. Jack (MVP-Networking).
