Wireless Networking - Wireless Laptop obtaining IP address but not allowed to get on Int |

I have recently purchased a Dell laptop inspirion that has wireless
capability. I recently installed netgear wireless router and connected to my desktop. Everything works fine there. The laptop worked fine with the router until I installed or changed something (not sure). Now what happens is that my laptop obtains an IP address but will not allow me to get onto the internet. I've noticed that when I "ipconfig /all", it gives me the ip address and subnet mask but not the default gateway. I've set properties in the IP Protocol pages to all automatically obtain all ip address information (This is the way it has always been). I've tried the "Repair" function but it will not work. So how does the laptop obtain an ip address from the router and then not let the "repair" function? Do I need to reinstall the wireless router all together or is there a way to re-initialize wireless networking on my laptop? =?Utf-8?B?U3dhbGx5?= |

Hi
My guess would be that it obtaining an IP like this 169.xxx.xxx.xxx Which means that the Wireless card cannot connect to the Router and get an IP, so it assigns the internal Windows Default IP. You have to put the laptop close to the Wireless Router and make sure that all the settings are configured correctly. May be this can further Help. My New Wireless does not work - http://www.ezlan.net/wireless.html Wireless, Basic Configuration - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Config.html Wireless Security - http://www.ezlan.net/Wireless_Security.html Jack (MVP-Networking). You were right in that the IP address starts wit 169...... But my laptop sits
right next to my wireless while working on this issue. I am using Windows to configure instead of the Proset Wireless that I was using before. The Proset does not work either (in that it is unable to connect successfully). Although, when I use windows or Proset the Wireless Network Connection screen says that I am connected and that the signal is all 5 bars (max) but then it has another message on the same screen that says "Limited or no connectivity". Maybe I need to start over and re-initialize the wireless portion on my laptop, but, I do not know how to remove all the setup information that exists.... What are your thoughts......?
