Default Can see it, but cannot connect

I have a new compaq presario.. DSL service with a wireless westell
modem/router.
I have turned off all security on the router... it is broadcasting the SSID.
The laptop sees it as an unsecured network... however When I click it to
connect... it says please wait while it connects.. but never does....
What could be the problem?

It could be that the Westell wireless is set to only allow connections only
at "G" speeds and your Laptop does not support "G" speeds. Or it could be
that your Laptop is set to only connect at "G" speeds and the access point
does not support "G" speeds. Another option is you Westell may have Access
list enabled where the MAC address of your laptop must be registered with
the Westell before it can connect.

Check to make sure you don't have the MAC Address Filter turn on for the router configuration. I have the same problem when I enable the MAC Address Filter. Setup your connection without any security enable. Once you have a good connection then enable the security settings one at a time. Hope this help.
