Hello,
We have cable internet on the Win98SE machine. I bought my husband a computer with WinXP/Home Media and installed a wireless PCI adapter WPN311 on his machine. On mine I set up the WGT624 wirelss firewall router between my computer and the cable modem. We're both able to connect to the internet now and I set up his email in Outlook Express and it works fine. I haven't tried any file sharing yet. However, when I went to check my own email with my usual program Mozilla mail on the Win98SE machine, and then tried in with my Outlook Express, I'm not able to retrieve or send email at all anymore. I can only check my email at charter.com. Is there a step I've missed? I do not have a wireless PCI card on the Win98 machine, like on my husband's that I installed, but have mine wired by cable from the router. Best Buys said I didn't need a wireless card except on one machine. I've called Charter cable. They can't help. Netgear says to call Charter cable. Thank you so much for any help. Tina p.s. I get no error with Mozilla. It just acts like it's connected but no longer asks me for my password and just sits there. When checking mail with Outlook Express, I get the following message: Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account pop.chartertn.net, server pop3.chartertn.net, protocol pop3, port 110, secure SSL: no, error number: 0x800CCC0F gtswhitt Last edited by gtswhitt : 10-30-2006 at 03:08 AM. |
