wireless router

my family purchased a wireless router and reciever a while ago, and the geek
squad guy came out and fixed it up on my step father's comp. but after he
left, me and my brother got the wireless router, and even though we asked the
geek squad guy to come out and fix my comp up, i had a virus problem and had
to do a system restore, so now my comp isn't set up to use the router. can
you please tell me how to manually fix my comp so that i can use the router?
i have dsl, so all i need it so know how to configure my computer so that i
can use it (we even have a network so that once i have the router up and
running and my bro gets a new reciever since the other one shorted out we
will both be able to go online).

Wireless Router can be connected to with a Wire or Wireless.

I would suggest that you would first connect through a Wire and make sure
that your network settings are configured correctly, and were revived from
the Virus attack.

In General, you can debug the Network Settings of a computer by following
these steps.

Step One. Check the Network parameters in the Computer's Device Manager.
Make sure that the Network Card drivers are installed correctly; i.e. there
is No IRQ conflict, and No Ghost installation.

Step Two. Verify Basic network setting in the OS:

If the above two Steps indicates that every thing looks good but
functionally it does not work.

Step Three. Check (and repair if necessary) the Socket Layers, Winsock, and
or refresh the TCP/IP Stack. http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet

When you can use the Internet via a wire, ask your father what the security
parameters of the Wireless are and try to configure the Wireless part.

basically, when we first got the wireless router, a geek squad agent came
over and after connecting the router to the computer, did some stuff with the
computer to configure it for using the router for the internet so that we
could also use it on other computers as well, but after doing a system
restore, i have to do it all over again and i don't know how to do it. i'll
try to look at the ways that jack said, but i'm not sure how he configured
the system.

he wouldn't know/understand what the security settings are. could you give me
a link to configure the wireless part myself so that i can do it (unless your
talking about a secured network for our house, then we still have one that
the geek squad guy set up).

ya, i looked and didn't see a ghost installation. i also saved a site to my
desktop and tried to type in the weblink to go to the setup page for it (some
# that the webpg said to type in), but it wouldn't load (kept saying cannot
find or can't display)
