Default What happens when I compact a folder in TB?

I know what the term "Compact" means in the language, but when I click
compact folder, what actually happens "behind the scenes?" as all the
messages are still there? Also is it important to compact them as I
delete my messages once read. I only keep important ones in another
folder, not my inbox.

Thanks

Adam

When messages are deleted in TB, they are merely marked for deletion,
not actually deleted. The remain in the mbox file, although you don't
see them in TB.

Compacting the folders actually deletes these messages. If you don't
compact the folders periodically, they can grow to an enormous size.
