PEAP config changes to Smart Card

We are using IAS with Windows 2003 for our wireless authentication. The configurations are pushed down to the users with group policy. Every once in a while the EAP type setting on the client gets changed to Smart Card and the client loses connection to the wireless. The clients are running Windows XP with SP2.

Does anyone know what could be causing the settings to change?
