It suddenly is even worse in that I just opened TB and all accounts had a blue gazillion messages again! I had 1 GB of RAM installed by a local shop and he left the initial 250 MB installed. That evidently blew the computer's mind and many errors were generated, one being I had to re-install Firefox. This morning I couldn't subscribe to any newsgroups so made a new TB Profile and that's when all the trouble started. I appreciate your help, but I almost feel this is a lost cause. |

So this was a clean profile? This is not good news. I hate to say it, but try creating another test profile, set up one newsgroup account, and see if it behaves. Lee |

Okay, that's different. By accounts, do mean the individual groups on the server? Is this a news server provided my your ISP? Lee |

TB can't handle having several accounts use the same news-server, so those accounts are permanently messed up; delete them (perhaps the entire profile) and start over. Create only one account for a news-server; if you need several identities, go into the account settings for that account and create the identities within that account. -- |

AFAIK this was a clean profile, followed the instructions and first Uninstalled TB, then created the new one. I've been on this server (adelphia) for a month now and have had up to 10 newsgroups selected out of the 34,000+ available. I've talked to Adelphia's techs and they either don't know what TB is or have no clue what's wrong. That's why I finally came to you for help. Can I add yet another profile, say "test" without uninstalling TB? Thanks for following this through. |

You said you have multiple accounts, but only one news server. I questioned that, asking if you meant the groups within an account. In other words, for, say, news.mozilla.org, I have an account set up. I see it in the Folder Pane, with 20 groups subscribed. I can subscribe to as many groups as I want in that account. However, I cannot set up another actual account on news.mozilla.org. I could not have one listing for news.mozilla.org with 10 groups, and another news.mozilla.org account with another 10. Mumia was thinking along the same lines I am, that you have tried to set up multiple accounts on the same server, causing your problems. Do you really have more than one account on the same server? If so, let us know, and we will help rectify it. Lee |

Years ago you suggested I could move my mail/NGs to the root directory as: C:\Tbird for easy access via a DOS Batch file. When I look at that folder all I find is my previous server, Icehouse. The Adelphia server is under my Profile with 7 NGs. Maybe if I move it to the root folder things will work out. :-\ Thanks for the heads up on this. |
