Appologies if I am posting in the wrong area.
This is a bit of information which may be of help to some users out there who have a similar problem i.e slow xp installation. I decided to format my computer after various related problems, programs taking ages to open, hourglass each time you change directory, generally sluggish behaviour. This is were it all went wrong !! XP installation took 5 hours !! My system is ( was ) fairly fast AMD ATHLON 2000+ 120 GIG WESTERN DIGITAL IDE ASUS MOTHERBOARD ( A VERY GOOD BOARD ) ASUS 6600GT GRAPHICS CARD 512 MEG DDR 400 MEMORY Tried everything I could think off to get it sorted to no avail, it wasnt the memory, fans, overheating, faulty leads, graphics, sound card, power supply yadda yadda yadda. Solution: Clearing the bios sorted it: everything is now very fast. Im assuming that one of the board drivers became corrupted, resulting in slow data transfer, however, re-installing the board drivers on their own made no difference, clearing the bios is what cured it. Computer works at warp 9 now Hope this helps someone. Berilium berilium |
