Cannot Connect Wireless Laptop

Hello All,
I have a compaq laptop and a linksys wireless card(and linksys wireless
router) that was working fine. The laptop automatically connected, all was
well. I took the laptop on vacation and connected to another system and it
connected fine. After returning home I found that the laptop would not
connect to my home router. I changed the preferred network back to my home
router,put in the network key and it would not connect. I tried
uninstalling and reinstalling the card to create another wireless network
and tried to reconnect to no avail. I entered the correct network key (WEP
key) and it still wont reconnect. Does anyone have any ideas where to look
next?

Try removing encryption temporarily.

Connect any computer to your router with an Ethernet cable and enter
your router's configuration pages (on Linksys routers, this typically is
done by entering 192.168.1.1 in your web browser; default userid is
blank and default password is Linksys), navigate to the wireless
security page and turn off all encryption. On the laptop, delete all
wireless network connections as follows:

Control Panel > Network Connections > Wireless Network
Right click > Properties > Wireless Networks tab
"Remove" all entries in "Preferred networks"
Click "View Wireless Networks" and try to connect to your router.

If this works, re-enable encryption in the router. When you then try to
connect, you should be asked to input the key.

Unless you have a very old Linksys wireless card, you ought to be able
to use WPA rather than WEP; you really should. To do so, you may have
to update your router's firmware and/or your card's driver. Both are
available at the Linksys website.

Great. Were you able to get the connection working with at least some
variety of encryption, hopefully WPA? If for some reason you must use
WEP, enter the HEX key when prompted at your laptop, rather than the
"passphrase" you may have used on the router to generate the key(s).
