Need Temporary VPN Solution During Move

We will soon be moving our corporate office, where we have a Cisco 3030 VPN
concentrator as the hub for 20 remote locations.

About 5 remote locations use routers (1700s and 800s), while the rest use
Cisco 3002 HW Clients to connect back to the 3030.

Because of the way the 3002s work, all those locations will lose Internet
connectivity while the 3030 is being moved to our new location.

In order to minimize downtime, I would like to set up a 2nd 3030 at the new
site before I unplug the old one. I figure that way all I have to do is
change a few IP addresses and downtime is kept to a minimum.

Unfortunately, a 2nd 3030 just for a move is beyond my budget.

I considered using a 3005 as a backup, but even this is kind of expensive.

Does anyone know if there is a less-expensive product that will serve as a
temporary backup? I'm looking at the DLink DFL-300, a variety of Netgear
boxes, and a Symantec box. Many of these are limited in their user
connections.

Thanks

Check out Sonicwall. There are different levels based on the number of
users and number of SA's. I imagine you could find one with the numbers you
are looking for, running about $500-$1000. Sonicwall also has a document on
their site about how to setup a Cisco IOS/Sonicwall vpn. Not sure about the
3002 hardware, but I imagine the idea is the same as the IOS. A caveats,
sometimes when the SA times out, the link will drop for a couple minutes
while it syncs back up. If you set your SA to 24 hours and it drops for a
couple minutes, does it work for you?

Or, if you do enough business with Cisco, you might try calling your rep to
see if they would want to loan you a device for a short period of time while
you make the move.

Good luck,

Jim

Thanks for the recommendation, I will look into it. I have thought about
calling our rep, and I still might -- but I'm thinking if I can find
something for less than $1,000 or so, it might be a good idea just to have
it as a backup.

Just see if you can borrow one from your local Cisco sales office.
They should understand.
