Which Router T3/E3

Im looking to drop in a 20 Meg fractional DS3

I have choice of 7204VXR router or Cisco 3745 router.

I like to also run BGP and use a pair of T1.

I worked with 3600 before but not the 72xx series. Any suggestion ?

3745 may be up to the task for this. Any plans of expansion?

Both will work fine. The 3745 will handle two DS3 interfaces. The
3725 will only handle one (Cisco marketing says this).

The 7200VXR will handle many more, depending on which NPE module.

I'd personally go with the 3745 as its a newer model, and more IOS
options may be available for it in the future(??)

Great.. I saw some of the EOL for 7200s... made me worried a little..

Price for 7204vxr came out to be 1-2k lower with the 225 engine..
waiting for the 400 engine.. I posed that question also.. to my boss..
do you want to get multiple ds3 or single ? no response yet.. glad to
know i can do with either.. I may get the 7204vxr with dual t3 and
dual t1.. thanks. I rather have 3745 also but these guy didn't really
like my idea.. so its not my money

I would not use a 3745 if you're planning on expansion. Though Cisco
claims a 3745 can handle two DS3s, our internal lab testing says
otherwise. In fact, we've found that (depending on packet size,
routing protocols used, and other factors) a 3745 can't quite drive a
DS3 to full speed. In practice I've implemented a single DS3 and it
works OK, but it makes me nervous.

I would absolutely recommend the 72xxVXR with an NPE-400.

Really? I am putting in a 3725 with a single DS3 here shortly. I was
under the impression it could handle one just fine. I guess I'll find
out.

As always - the difference between X Mbps of normal traffic and the
same amount of minimum-sized DoS traffic can be significant.

The 3725 can do over 200Mbps with full-sized packets and no
performance-reducing features enabled. But things change as packet
size decreases and processing-intensive features such as ACLs and NAT
are enabled. The performance you'll get is completely dependant on
these factors.

Or take it a step further and get the GE's. Built in GE, no BW points,
life is better.
