1 of our customer access an iSeries using a Win32 telnet like
emulator.through a site to site VPN using a Cisco PIX 1701.

The problem is that while a telnet connection using Putty
remain fast and stable, the other telnet emulator gets its
connection dropped just after a few minutes of usage.
But if the Win32 telnet emulator is left alone the connection
remains established for hours on end.

Can anyone provides any ideas how to figure out what's
happening?

My first guess would be that it's not negotiating something properly.
Have you tried Tera Term, IVT Telnet etc to rule it out as a client
issue?

>>Have you tried Tera Term,
actually I have and just like with Putty, Tera Term connection
is rock solid. Screen refresh are as well much quick with putty
or Tera Term.

then the "win32 telnet emulator" - what is it BTW? - must be doing
something stupid. You may have to catch it with a Sniffer to see why it
does after few minutes of use. Maybe it's trying a reverse dns lookup a
few minutes into it?

Something to do with TCP "keepalives"?
