Hi everybody,

I need a solution to limit the modem connection speed of my dialup
users. If you can give me an operational solution, you'll receive a
prize from me.

I've got a Cisco AS5300 and E1 PRI lines, my customer dial into the
router through the E1 lines, As you know the maxium modem connection
speed is 56K. I want set the connection speed limit of 33.6 Kbps on
only one E1 PRI line.

Please be advised that the important speed for me is the DCE-DCE speed
not the fro example the DCE-DTE speed in my router, I know that with
rxspeed and txspeed command on Asynchronous interface, I can limit the
throughput between DCE and DTE of the router and then even if the user
is connected with for example 48 Kbps to the router then the
throughput won't exceed the speed limit set on the async interface,
but this is not my solution. Actualy I want the customer don't sense
that he is dialing into an E1 PRI line, but think that he's connected
to an analoge regular 33.6 Kbps modem. In other word, the only thing
that is importnat for me, is that none of the customer see the
connection speed more than 33.6 on their dial up networking client
while connection to the router.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Your comments and helps would be appreciated indeed.

Best Wishes
Neshat

Hm.. that's the only reason I've looked at this post . What's the
prize?

You should look at S-registers of your modems initialization string.
Using one of them (I can't remember which) you can reduce maximum
connection speed. Just look on CCO for modem S-registers.

Or find the register to disable V.90 negotiation. You should be able
to set this per modem, guaranteeing what modem gets used for a
specific connection is another issue

Dear Ivan,

Thank you very much for your answer, But as I saw in the Cisco
website,

S30 (Maximum Connect Rate) is in the range 75 to 33600 bps and the
default value is 33600, as I saw in my router:

Guard Tone: Disabled
Modem Standard: V.90 Automode
Max. Connect Rate: 33600 bps
Min. Connect Rate: 300 bps
Signal Quality Threshold: Bit

, this value is set to 33600 bps!!??? but why the dial up users can
connect with a speed like 48Kbps and so on???!!??!?!

Waiting for your reply.

As Chris suggested in other post, you shoud look for setting "Modem
standard" to lower than V.90. V.90 will always allow higher speed than
one secified by "Max. Connect Rate" (I don't know why but I've seen that
before). So, change the modem modulation standard...

It's under "Modulation Selection".

Hope this helps
