Hey,
I'm having a bit of a crazy problem. Our core switch is an Extreme
Alpine. We have a Cisco ICS 7750 VOIP. It's basically a chassis with a
catalyst 2908 backplane and blade computers instead of rack mount
compaq boxes for the call managers.
The ICS 7750 has been working fine plugged into the Alpine for over a
year. It's set up to trunk and it works fine.
We've always had a problem plugging other Cisco switches into the
Alpine though. If I plug another Catalyst 2900 into the Alpine, all of
our hard phones disconnect from the callmanager and have to resync.
The phones do reconnect to the call manager, but of course all active
calls are dropped.
The other issue involved is that things plugged into the cat can not
be reached through the trunk. So, if a trunk was configured and the
cat was set to have it's interface in vlan 100, pinging the cat from
something on the Alpine works fine. Pinging from the cat to machines
on the alpine also works, as does pinging from the cat to machines
plugged into the cat. Anything on the cat can not seem to get through
the trunk though.
VTP works fine, as does CDP, and as far as I can tell, spanning tree.
I also have a windows server with an Intel eepro card that supports
trunking. This card works fine on the same port.
The native vlans are set to 1 on the ports in question on both the
Alpine and the cat. The vlans we want to use are in the VTP database.
The vlans are also added as tagged to the port on the Alpine.
Has anyone seen or experienced anything like this?
Thanks.
