Hi all

I am offered a consultant job as a network engineer. But I am not sure how
much I should charge. Can anyone kindly advise the going rate?

Thanks.

ax

No one can answer your questions, too many variables:

Your skillsets on various technologies, equipment types, etc.
Your experience levels on each skillset above
Location
Other intangibles such as your people skills, troubleshooting and/or
design skills, etc.
Duties/responsibilities of the job.
Customer/client/employer

Sorry, it's just not a simple environment you're jumping into.

If you can try to quantify some of the above factors, someone may be
able to suggest a number, but even then it'll be not much more than an
educated guess.

Right now we don't even know what part of the planet you're posting
from.

Mike

Mike,

Thanks. I am in Los Angeles, CA. I have 10+ years in networking and 6+ years
in Cisco Catalyst switches (layer 2-> 4)and routers (2500->7200). I have
CCNP and CCIE (written) accreditation.

This is a network engineer/designer consulting (part-time) offer. It will be
on a hourly basis. The company is a 4+ years old communications company.

Wellll, I took that to mean that he'd passed the written but hadn't
taken (or passed) the lab yet.

I know some really smart people that are in the same boat, so I don't
hold that against anyone.

One of the smartest people I know took 5 tries to pass the lab.

Yeah, this **** is so true. I know some really stupid people without any
real-world expirience or technical background that passed the lab for
the first time... that's really sad.
