Lsass error on boot up

Hi.

When I boot up my computer with WinXP I get the following message:

"LSASS.exe system error. An I/O operation initiated by the registry failed
unrecoverably. The registry could not read in or write out or flush, one of
the files that contains the systems image of the registry." I click on OK
and I can boot up from that point but it is very annoying.

I have run the Sasser worm fix from Symantec and that seemed to work for
awhile but now it comes up every time I boot again.

Any suggestions?

Michelle
