Default windows XP - 2 computers

I have Windows XP Home installed on my main computer. I used the same OS
disk to load it onto my other computer - the two are networked.

The 2nd computer will not allow me to register it with Microsoft; it tells
me that registration code is invalid and it keeps counting down the number
of days left to register. I am assuming that when the time is up, I will not
be allowed to get updates for that computer for XP.

Is there a way around this? I considered buying another "seat" of XP for
that computer, but big bucks through retail ($200.00?). I bid on what was
supposed to be a legit copy on EBay, got it for a decent price ($42.00), but
was then informed by EBay that the sale was cancelled because "the
intellectual property rights owner notified eBay that the listing
potentially infringes its copyright, trademark or other rights".

I there a way to use the same OS disk for the 2nd computer? Or can I get a
legal copy on EBay with confidence? BTW, the 2nd computer had Windows 98 and
I wanted to upgrade.

Thanx

An oem copy of xp home is about US $89.00
Just buy from reputable retailer like newegg.com.
ALSO,,,even a RETAIL xp home UPGRADE is
also about the same price. Not sure where you
are getting the $200.

$200.00 is Probably XP Pro, though even then it's a bit high.

Windows XP, Home or Pro can only be installed and registered to one computer
at a time. If you want to remove it from one computer and install it on
another you have to phone Microsoft to get a new registration code. I don't
think you would get a legal copy on e-Bay or anywhere else for much less
than $140.
You wouldn't really know if it's a trusted copy getting it from e-Bay until
you go to register it.
Hope this helps.

Officially (this is what i've read)

*OEM is not transferrable from one comp to another. can't use the same
code twice
*Upgrade is only an upgrade
*Retail does a clean install or an upgrade

In reality, an internet thug can download a copy of Win XP (Retail),
and the thug will most likely find that all the ones on offer are full
versions. The thug may go to eMule or use 'bit torrent' or kazaa to
obtain it. Each has its 'costs' and benefits.

It may be possible illegally to reuse an OEM or do a clean install from
an upgrade. Most internet thugs would download a copy of XP and not be
unlucky enough to get an upgrade or OEM. They may even be lucky enough
to get one that has already been activated by some form of
sorcery(without the ugly women in the air riding broomsticks).
