I've started getting this error on my laptop...iexplorer.exe-application
error
The instruction at "0x7c9105f8" referenced memory at "0x04170010". The
memory could not be "read", Click on OK to terminate the program.

I clicked on the OK, but nothing terminated...this happened AFTER I had
clicked close on an internet explorer window. I had other windows open at
the time and they were not affected. Is this a sign of memory going bad?

no, not necessarily. Often software crashes in XP can result in that message
with perfectly functioning memory. I've seen it happen quite a few times.
Check your system thoroughly for spyware.
