I recently registered a domain name, and have the mx record pointing to one
of my mail servers, specifically mail.fthissiteup.com. I am not using the
domain for anything, it is still sitting at a parked page, haven't even
told anyone the name yet (online or otherwise). I'm /already/ getting
junkmail addressed to it (below is two of /many/ from my SMTP logs):

eXtremail20040822.log-22/08/2004 - 02:02:37 -> [516550] SMTP - EHLO:

What do you think, http://www.velocityreviews.com/forums/(E-Mail Removed) was somehow randomly guessed and
put on a list and has been sent a couple hundred pieces of junkmail over
the past week, or that the registrar sold the domain name out to a spam
list and for whatever reason they picked joejoe?

Domain registrars sell email addresses by default as they are a really
HOT address. Even the big registrars do this without your permission.
They figure you're going to use a good/primary email address for your
domain as its a really important thing. I set my domain email addresses
to disposable, yet real and active, yahoo email accounts.

Yeah, but that isn't what is happening. I registered a domain, and am
receiving ~40 attempts to spam per day to "(E-Mail Removed)". The
address I have on file with the registrar is not even on the same domain
name. I'm just curious as to why A) People would spam a domain that for
all intents and purposes is just a parked page with an MX record and B) Why
the **** would they pick "joejoe" as the user there to hit with junkmail?
