Hello Everyone,
The problem I have is when I am on-line and click on a link that is to a pdf file, instead of opening up my Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.05 and displaying the file, it will open a download window and I will have to download the file. The whole procedure can be a real hassle just to read a pdf file for a small bit of information. I did not used to have this problem. Can someone suggest a way to get back to the way I believe it should be, opening the file while on-line ? I have Uninstalled and Reinstall the Reader with no luck. Adobe Acrobat Reader will not upgrade to Ver. 6 on my system. Any and all input will be Greatly Appreciated. Windows 98 Pent III 450 MHz 256 MB RAM I.E. 6.0 O.E 6.0 Thank You, Wayne R. Russ Wayne R. When the download box appears can't you just click "open" rather than
"save"? Also, I believe there's a little check-box in that download window that says something like "prompt every time I try to download files of this type". You should be able to check (or un-check?) that box and stop the download window from appearing every time. Brad "Wayne R. Thank You Brad,
Thank You for your reply. I use Download Express download manager. I tried your suggestion and it did not work. I suspected Download Express, so I uninstalled it. That solved the problem. It is up to me to make a choice now. Do I want to use Download Express, or live with the problem try to contact the writers of Download Express and see if they have any suggestions. Your suggestion got my thinking pointed in the right direction. Now I know what is the cause of the problem. It is up to me to make the choice. Again, Thank You, Wayne R. Hello Everyone,
I contacted Meta Products the writers of Download Express. They came up with a solution to my problem. They suggested that I take the pdf extension out of the list of file types that Download Express manages during a download process. It worked. The only drawback is in the rare case when I do want to save a pdf file to disk and click the save button. Up will come a MS download window not a Download Express one. Big deal in that rare case.
