Problem PCMCIA card?

Hi, can anyone help pinpoint the problem area?

I have a Gateway notepad computer. It has a Xircom RealPort PCMCIA
card. Recently the computer started to refuse to boot properly.

After much trial and error I found that if the card is removed that
the computer boots OK. But then if the card is inserted the computer
freezes, only to be reactivated again when the card is removed.

Problem? Likely to be that the card itself is faulty ... or something
else?

Computer is running Windows XP Professional.

Any help appreciated.
