Downloading Windows Updates and Installing offline

Hey,

Few months back I posted a question about where security updates could be
downloaded from so that they could be installed offline (perhaps on a
friend's PC with a dialup connection, or to plug holes before hooking a new
install up to the 'net). Thor replies with the site,
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...corporate=true.

But I have another question now. When choosing the updates, is there a way
to run windows update off the CD. What I mean is to download the updates
and then have the computer select which to install? This would be helpful
if I need to install a particular update (or set of them) on a PC who's
current state I am not sure of. Granted, I could go and look in Add/Remove
Programs for the hotfixes that have been installed and then cross those off
the list to install, but I was wondering if there was an easier way.

Thanks in advance,

Adam
