most turntables require preamplification, so they connect to a input circuit
that is designed for the extremely low signal level of a turntable's output. You may need to purchase a small phono preamplifier so the output will be compatible with the sound-card's line in. Alternatively, leave it connected to your normal stereo amplifier, and use a tape or audio monitor output to run to the sound card input. ...
