You can use the same version.

After you install windows and go to activate it will give you the
instructions and a phone number to call to change your registration key.

This just means that it needs to be re-activated. Call the number and
tell them what changed; it will cost nothing.

Either you didn't call them and are making this up, or you totally didn't
say what the system is telling you is wrong. Windows XP is /not/ telling
you that you need a new license. No where does it say that. It is saying
that your copy of XP has been activated before and with different hardware,
so it wants you to call their number and say "Hey, I just bought a new
motherboard, processor and video card" and they'll give you a new
activation key. Unless, that is, you rae using and OEM version of XP, in
which case the license actually says it is good for only 1 machine and can
not be transfered.

Follow the directions from WindowsXP to re-activate online. Or, simply call
Microsoft support and explain that you upgraded your PC, and they will give
you the activation code. It shouldn't be a problem, and you shouldn't have
to buy anything.

If in the end you absolutely have to buy a new license (I doubt you will) go
to http://www.saveateagle.com/micwinxphomo.html for Windows XP HOME or
http://www.saveateagle.com/micwinxpproo2.html for Windows XP PRO.

*Disclaimer*
This is not a direct answer to the OP's problem, just a solution.

This is where P2P really shines.

The Blue List keygen and all is well...

Stick it to the man!
