I'm running winXP pro.
I have a folder on the desktop which contains a few subfolders - some of these files (until yesterday!) were .jpg's or text files - now they have changed to shortcuts to ms-dos applications! I scanned the containing folder with up to date AV software but no virus was found. any ideas? -- The following is a true story - only the address has been changed, to protect the guilty tomScotland stop your grinnin' and drop YOUR LINEN to reply tomScotland |

For instance, one was a .jpg of a cd cover - so was called "Ride - live light back.jpg" - the file is still in the folder I placed it in, still has the exact same filename but now its a "shortcut to ms-dos application" weird! -- The following is a true story - only the address has been changed, to protect the guilty tomScotland stop your grinnin' and drop YOUR LINEN to reply |

I don';t know what happened but it looks like you have lost the association with whatever apps you were using to view the jpgs and texr files you should be able to right click and select "open with" then choose the proper app. |

And the files haven't lost their association as far as I know, because I have plenty other jpg's in other folders that I can open and view no probs! -- The following is a true story - only the address has been changed, to protect the guilty tomScotland stop your grinnin' and drop YOUR LINEN to reply |

Download, install, and run TweakUI for XP from Microsoft's web site. It is a "Repair Icons" function that may help. > http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/p.../powertoys.asp |
