Default How to access a disk on a desktop from a laptop?

Situation:
Desktop with no monitor running Windows ME.
i need to get some files from it transferred onto a laptop running Windows XP.
I heard you can see the desktop disk by hooking up to the printer port from
the laptop?
How is this done? Is there another way?
(I know "PC Relocator" can do this, but I don't want to spend $70)
Thankx

"Direct Cable Connection" and a "Laplink" crossed over parallel cable.

Keep in mind though, the desktop with no monitor will need a monitor hooked
up to it to set up DCC, as the OP says there is no monitor for the desktop.

No matter what you do, your going to need a monitor to first set up the
desktop to be shareable in some way...then you can remove the monitor
and work that way.

Depends on the OS on the desktop. Laplink will install itself across a
cable. (Don't remember for sure which, but I think it's serial for the
install-but you'd want to switch to parallel for speed once it's
installed.) At least it will on a Win98 machine-the latest I've tried.
(Don't remember the Laplink version I used-it definitely wasn't the latest.)

Hmm, I didn't know that, thanks. I was thinking how someone set up
tight-vnc to bsically take control of your remote desktop, so what you
see is exactly what you would see if you were to be sitting at the
remote desktop, but you would need to install at the desktop first, and
set it up and everything.

I was thinking about the 30 day trial of gotomypc, but once again you would
need a monitor. I would go to an old comp store and puck up a really cheap used
15 inch monitor

It is the serial cable, in which case you need a crossed over serial
cable (null modem)

So now the OP needs Laplink, a null modem serial cable &, for best
performance, a Laplink parallel cable. Might be cheaper for him to pick
up a small used monitor at that. And doing so would certainly expand his
possibilities.
