Hello, sorry if my lingo is off, but I'll be installing an additional hard
drive onto my system this week. My specs are below. What I'd like to do is keep my present drives and install the new one this week to be the primary one off which the PC actually boots from. (dual booting with more than one OS will be an issue I'll deal with later on). I simply want to take advantage of the extra caching and power this new hard drive will give me. These days, is it very simple to just hook up the new hard drive and control everything from within Windows? (just as I was able to set the partitions and formatting?) Or will it entail lots of fudging around with the insides of my 'PC? As it used to be in 'olden days? (you know, setting which one will be the primary, primary slave, Secondary and secondary slave???) My specs: Pentium IV, Using XP with 2 hard drives already installed as two separate partitions. Over 750mb of Ram, my two present drives are: 6 gigs and 20 gigs. The new hard drive I'm expecting will be a: Maxtor 80GB EIDE HD 7200/8MB/9.3/ATA-133 DiLu790 |

The easiest way to do it is to get a version of ghost (symantec) and just
ghost the original boot drive onto the new drive. It is simple to run and works slick. But with a dual boot setup, you'd want the other OS to be installed before XP(if you have another one in mind like Win 9 > > > "DiLu790" <> wrote in message > news:... > > Hello, sorry if my lingo is off, but I'll be installing an additional hard > > drive onto my system this week. I think I'll be trying it once I get my DVD RW so's to back everything up before taking the plunge. (I only need the 95 and 98 OS for testing some products of mine) http://www.petri.co.il/install_win98_after_xp.htm http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_repair_9x.htm Again, thanks |
