to cut a long story short it all started with my hard drive making a clunk
noise and seeming to halt momentarily when running, though sometimes it
could run for a week and be fine Until i power off and power on.
Since then i've got a new motherboard, new cpu, new hard drive!, and it ran
fine for a week, i go to put a new geforce4 in and it all starts happening
again!
all i can think of is my power supply, Also when i've powered off and power
on it makes a loud humming noise like something is stuck in a fan (of course
i check, and nothing) i power off and on a few times and it'll boot fine
(unless of course the HD is halting when in use)
any help greatly appreciated, I've spent so much >:
**also my old hard drive has been put into a 400watt case and seems up to
now to be running perfectly**
it's a 300watt atx
Pc specs
AthlonXP 2600+ (was 1600+)
512DDR
80 gig 7200 maxtor (was Maxtor 40gig)
Geforce 4 440 8x (was Geforce2 or on-board)
Soundblaster
ASrock board(was ECS)
**please note i had the same HD clunk/halt problem with previous set up**

I'd say you got your finger on the problem. Sound like the PS is being
naughty.
