Ok, here's a question for the very intelligent people on this board.

I have a sound clip play when I get mail, so I can go to the Outlook
Express page to read new messages. Problem is that I've been getting
a lot of these annoying sobig messages, so this damn sound clip is
playing so much it is getting aggravating.

I already have a filter that deletes those particular emails
immediately, but the sound still plays, and I have to go check my
mail, wasting a little bit of time each on each occurence.

So that's the question: How can I tell OE not to play that clip when a
message has gone straight to 'Deleted Items'.

The one work around I am about to try is to tell the filter to leave
the message on the server. Then when my isp warns me that my mail box
is getting full, I'll go online and clear out all those sobig emails.

I'd prefer not to do it that way, but I may try that to see if it
works.

that the email attached to my message is just a spam collector, so
please respond to the group.
Please respond to group; email address only for spam. Thanks!

Go to the sounds applet in the control panel, and disable the new mail
notfication sound. You can't disable sound just for mail that goes to
deleted items. It's all or nothing.

Thor, thanks for the input. That confirms my hunch on this issue.
Here's the work around I came up with:

Since most of the sobig junk (for me anyway) comes during the evening
and overnight, I will run a filter which leaves these messages on the
server. Then in the morning, I'll switch to the filter that downloads
and deletes them.

I did this last night and in the morning I had about 10 sobig emails
download, one notification sound of course. Once those emails start
again tonight, I'll switch back to the 'leave on server' filter. The
problem with leaving this filter on all the time is that checking
email is a little slower while OE searches the headers on the server
and filters them out every time it checks the mail.

If you are confident in your message filter getting the correct ones
(assuming you are using OE message rules) then you could set the action to
"delete from server", which would prevent you from having to even download
the sobig messages.
