Thor, thanks for the input. That confirms my hunch on this issue.
Here's the work around I came up with:
Since most of the sobig junk (for me anyway) comes during the evening
and overnight, I will run a filter which leaves these messages on the
server. Then in the morning, I'll switch to the filter that downloads
and deletes them.
I did this last night and in the morning I had about 10 sobig emails
download, one notification sound of course. Once those emails start
again tonight, I'll switch back to the 'leave on server' filter. The
problem with leaving this filter on all the time is that checking
email is a little slower while OE searches the headers on the server
and filters them out every time it checks the mail.
