Wireless Adapter on XP

We had a problem today where one of the laptops was no connecting to any of
the APs. The only way we were able to get it to work was by checking the
option "Allow Windows to configure my wireless network settings" under
Profile Manager in ACU. Is this a required setting on XP machines?

APs are configured for WEP encryption and MAC based authentication. The SSID
broadcast is turned off.

Thanks in advance.
