Default U.S. Pressures ISPs on Data Retention

"In a private meeting with industry representatives, Gonzales, Mueller and
other senior members of the Justice Department said Internet service
providers should retain subscriber information and network data for two
years, according to two sources familiar with the discussion who spoke on
condition of anonymity."

There are current issues regarding data retention by ISPs in the EU as
well. The main one being - who will pay for it?

Such project - data retention by the ISPs imposed by the govs, is of
unprecedented sickness. It can only result in unprecedented spying on
individuals and businesses with a *less than zero* result regarding the
claimed goal (crime/terrorist activity struggle).

What I foresee is an explosion of encrypted tunnels users, eager to
export their traffic - to some places where cyber crime may actually
be a concern.

Kind regards

Absolutely. Looking at the big picture one must ask oneself why? Why are
governments getting so active in using the Internet to spy on individuals?
Although that lie and say it is for catching kiddie porn views but come on,
this is nothing more than a feeble attempt to misdirect that real
intentions...ironically, if a government is truly taking care of it's
citizens their is not reason to spy....
