What is the default ethernet type of a Cisco 2501?
How can you change this type?

Kind Regards

Tom

Greetings,

The default Ethernet frame type on Cisco equipment is Ethernet II (what
Cisco calls ARPA). The other possibilities are novell-ether (Novell 802.3),
SAP (IEEE 802.3 with 802.2 e0e0 SAP service; which is Novell 3.12 default)
and SNAP (IEEE 082.2 LLC). Novell-fddi and hdlc are also possible options
for other media types.

You can change it using the command: ipx network

Here's what the output would look like:

Router#config t
Enter configuration commands, one per line. End with CNTL/Z.
Router(config)#interface ethernet 0
Router(config-if)#IPX network 222 encapsulation ?
arpa IPX Ethernet_II
hdlc HDLC on serial links
novell-ether IPX Ethernet_802.3
novell-fddi IPX FDDI RAW
sap IEEE 802.2 on Ethernet, FDDI, Token Ring
snap IEEE 802.2 SNAP on Ethernet, Token Ring, and FDDI
