Computer Security - Enter button won't work

Default Enter button won't work


Help - I'm getting real desperate now!!! My Enter button has stopped
working. Rally hard to do any Assignments, emailing etc. I have
upgraded to Windows XP and deletedthe MEupdates just in case to no
avail. Any help greatly appreciated

It is possible that there is an obstruction under the key. Turn the
keyboard over and tap it gently but firmly against a table - see how
much detritus comes out. Try vacuuming the keys or blowing it out with
a can of computer "dust cleaner". Then, all else failing, gently but
very firmly push down on the key from the center which will sometimes
reconnect a loose key, depending on the design.

Replacements are cheap.

It is possible that the keyboard is defective.

In some word processing programs, you can hold down the Alt key, and at the
same time dial 11 on the numeric pad (Alt - 11), to issue the code for a
cariage return. This would be a good test to see if the computer is able to
respond to the Enter command.

The best test is to try another keyboard. I have seen keys fail. Keyboards
are not expensive to replace.

In many softwares, codes below Alt - 20 are blocked. MS Word will respond to
this.
