Hello,
For a current project i am to test lots of software firewalls e.g. Zone alarm etc, using 2 PC's(one to host the firewall, the other to send test data). Has anyone got any information on how i could test the firewalls. Doing some research i have come across things like SYN flood tests, port scans, throughput / number of connections tests. Am i on the right track. How can i carryout these tests using two PC's. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Dan. Daniel Harris |

Names are darkstar and undertest. If you want a dual boot darkstar; create a free/unformated/unknown partition on darkstar and install Mandrake linux using custom during partition phase. Click free space and create 512 meg swap, click free space and set it as /, click done. Pick all package groups except LSB. Once system is up, use System -->configure your computer, to install nmap and it's frontend, telnet, rlogin, ssh, .. any other tools you like. Now you can nmap undertest and do whatever you like. Mandrake 10.1 Official 3 cd set can be found on a mirror. Want to see install instructions? http://doc.mandrakelinux.com/Mandrak.../Starter.html/ Bit Twister |

For outbound leaks I suggest you investigate the state-of-the-art exploits at: http://www.firewallleaktester.com/ I'll leave you to your own devices and the recommendations of others regarding inbound probes and intrusions. Regards, PS When ready, please post your results (or a link to them). PPS I have generally been satisfied with the performance of hardware such as routers in stopping (almost) all inbound intrusions. nemo outis |

If you go to Google, and do a search for Firewall Test you will find
numerious sites that will test your system. Some find different things than others, depending on how they are set up. Even with a firewall running, you may be surprised at how some find out things about your system. -- Greetings, Jerry G. ============ "Daniel Harris" <> wrote in message news:... > Hello, > > For a current project i am to test lots of software firewalls e.g. Zone > alarm etc, using 2 PC's(one to host the firewall, the other to send test > data).
