Default Protection with network plug-in

I connect to internet then start an app that gets my data. It is not IE or
browser based. I really don't know the integrity of this plug-in, and
things squirrly since I got it. It gets quotes so data exchange should be
pretty well defined using dde. I don't know where to begin to secure system
with something like this. Any leads?

You should start with the software vendor.

My crystal ball is in the shop so I can't see what software you are
talking about. It should be ready by Friday, then I'll answer your
question.
